The following priorities have been derived from the Alliance’s Strategic Plan, constitute an extension of prior and on-going initiatives, and have been identified as core issues through discussions with members of the Executive Committee.

Strengthen Collaboration for Public Safety Initiatives. During the past six months, by working in conjunction with County Government, the Alliance will hold its Annual Union County Public Safety Day. In addition, we are increasing awareness of public safety initiatives occurring within Union County by highlighting both the Sheriff's office and County Police in the Alliance's countywide News Directions Paper. Also, the Alliance will assist in coordinating emergency management services for the County by providing leadership, planning, and identifying resources for the newly purchased E Team software.

Continue to Support Transportation/Infrastructure Initiatives in Union County. Union County has established a highly ambitious and visionary transportation/infra-
structure program to strengthen economic development and improve the quality of life for the people who live and work in the region. The Alliance will work in conjunction with the Transportation Development District Joint Planning Committee regarding projects such as Tremeley Point and the Bayway Area Study.

Assess and Improve the Condition of Healthcare for Union County Residents. The Alliance will work closely with the County Department of Human Services and other health sectors to improve the health status and condition of residents in Union County. In addition, the Alliance will participate in assisting the various county task forces in the implementation phase with planning and sharing of information from the Alliance's health assessment completed in 2002.

Sponsor Legislative Meetings. These joint meetings will encompass representatives from the State and Union County Legislative Delegation and County leaders/stakeholders. In addition, the Alliance will assist the County Department of Economic Development in co-hosting a conference, which will provide an opportunity to discuss an action framework on critical projects within the County to about 200 high-level attendees.

Improve Educational Opportunities within Union County Schools. The Alliance, in conjunction with the Workforce Investment Board (WIB) to develop programs that will help students understand that school performance is important and will help develop a more highly qualified workforce. In addition, the Alliance will assist the Union County Vocational Technical School on creating more recruitment programs for women and minorities to enter the various trades/unions.

Serve as the Catalyst to Assist the Coordination of a CountyWide Economic Incubator to Develop Goals, Action Plans, and Strategies. This would address the challenges faced by the various sectors in Union County. Explored would be new technologies, role of the global economy, matching economic competencies and emerging opportunities, education for the workplace and other quality of life issues.

Hold Annual Union County Alliance Conference. This was the Alliance's most successful conference. Attended by over 500 regional business, civic, governmental, educational, and non-for-profit leaders, the conference provide an overview of Alliance and the County of Union's activities for the previous year. It also provided a forum to unveil reports/documents and gave attendees' entrée to the State's most influential leaders.

Strengthen Support for Brownfields Development. The brownfields development has been the focus of enormous progress. The Alliance will continue to work collaboratively with the County and the municipalities to encourage re-development of brownfields in areas of Union County with the greatest need for economic development.

Continue to Publish Countywide Newspaper. The newspaper is distributed to more than 200,000 Union County homes and businesses. It serves as a keepsake tool of valuable information, which contains various service and program directories, a calendar of events, and important municipal and county news. The Alliance will continue to provide advertising opportunities from organizations in various sectors in Union County.
